I have been playing the guitar since 2004, and really enjoy it. I have a crazy guitar teacher from Corfu called Kostas (who is very disorganised), and our lessons pretty much consist of jamming. It's great to have such a low-key teaching, and it allows me to just enjoy the lessons and the instrument a lot more than with more structured lessons. However, some would argue that learning how to play very fast or different ways of playing chords etc helps you to appreciate the instrument. I find it more fun to learn that stuff myself, not be told it.. but thats just my opinion.
I prefer to play the acoustic guitar, although I do have an electric too. My acoustic is a pretty standard Crafter, and the guitar I started learning on. My electric is black Danelectro.
I mostly stay in DADGAD tuning, as I prefer it to standard.
